For Christmas this year, we bought our daughter a wobble board, also known as a balance board. This one is an electronic model that not only challenges a kids balance, but their coordination and strength too. It’s never too early to train balance and stability.
Balance training can be as simple as standing on one leg, or more challenging like using a balance board. My kids use their sense of balance every day when they are playing at the park or at home, but a more sedentary child will quickly lose their sense of balance if allowed to be inactive. For weight control and fun, try introducing a balance board. To begin, try standing on the balance board with two feet, then advance to one foot. that can progress to catching a ball while balancing on one foot or reciting the alphabet to keep the balance challenge going.
To take it a step further, shut your eyes. Balance is visual, so shutting your eyes will make the exercises more difficult. We all know how important it is to keep our balance as we age, so why not start early with some balance board fun and make it a part of your children’s active life.
